Waxing is a common hair removal technique that is used to remove huge amount of hair from the body. It is not always true that waxing can always leave a great smooth and silky skin. Waxing also has many side effects. The major side effects of waxing are the following:
Regular waxing can cause permanent damage to your skin. The skin loses its elasticity and suppleness. This happens because the wax that gets stick on to the skin is ripped off very quickly.
In the waxing process, the hair in the skin is removed by stripping with a cloth. This causes the skin to wrinkle. Wrinkles are formed because the skin loses its suppleness and elasticity.
If waxing is not done in a hygienic way, there are possibilities that you will get infected. Infections are caused by applying infected wax and use of unclean products in the saloon.
Other side-effects of waxing include rashes, slight reddish bumps, bruises and even bleeding. These are commonly seen in almost all people who wax to remove the unwanted hair.
In some people, waxing causes irritation of the skin and redness. These are not permanent side effects of waxing. Skin irritation and redness could be subsided with the application of ice on the affected area. These waxing side effects are generally observed in people with highly sensitive skin.
Another health hazard due to waxing is the risk of the hair follicles getting inflamed. This condition is called Folliculitis.
During the waxing process, the hair is removed in the opposite direction of hair growth or opposite direction of follicle. This causes the problem of ingrown hairs. The condition is referred to as Pseudofolliculitis
Waxing can also leave scars if done regularly.
Some people will have dark skin after waxing process since their skin gets burned due to hot wax.
